CELEBRITY

Breffny Morgan

Breffny is a media man. Upon graduating college his first venture was an attempted row across the Atlantic Ocean in 2009, an event that gathered much national publicity in the run-up to departure. Thousands of euro were raised for the Irish Red Cross via fundraisers at Breffny’s public all-day training sessions. The row itself was a more turbulent affair. The time trial ended only a thousand miles into the blue, on Day Ten of a proposed thirty day challenge when the rudder was torn from the boat by either a current, the back of a whale, or the top of a submerged cargo crate. Either way, the rudderless boat could only spiral, rendering progress impossible.

Having being rescued by cargo ship, Breffny returned to Ireland and experimented with entrepreneurship by setting up ‘Use Now’, a business that sold budget non-perishables. This caught the eye of Bill Cullen and Breffny was admitted to TV3’s The Apprentice as the youngest ever candidate to compete for the executive job with the motor tycoon. Filming began, and this time, nothing could rescue Breffny from what lay in store.

Of the fourteen Apprentice candidates in the 2009 production, Breffny survived to the final six before hearing the words ‘You’re Fired’. By a mixture of originality, stubbornness, genius one-liners and fluke, Breffny survived longer than the majority of candidates and became a household name with a mushrooming fanbase. The Facebook page Breffmania amassed over 25,000 active fans by early 2010.

Breffny moved to continue with reality television via starring roles in Celebrity Salon and Celebrity Bainisteoir. The former may have been fun and games but the latter was an adventure that saw Breffny move apartment to Tuam Co.Galway to be close to his Kilconly team where he personally led each training session in the summer of 2010. Breffny’s team beat the side led by media mogul Gavin Duffy (one of Breffny’s Apprentice interviewing overlords) by 21 points, before Kilconly met defeat in the semi-final.

Breffny’s full-time engagement with the media continued with photocall and catwalk modelling, radio ads, after-dinner speaking, and emcee duties the length and breadth of the country. He also acted in the winning RTÉ Storyland short film competition, held down brand ambassadorships, and contributed several hours a week to different charities in various capacities, including a charity boxing match in November 2011 that called for three months of rigourous training at The Boxing Clinic in Cork. Breffny duly won the bout, winning by overall points, completing the final round with a dislocated shoulder.

Independent of public draw, Breffny is hired as a schools’ speaker and private consultant to second level students wishing to be outstanding in their education, Breffny himself having graduated from Harvard University in 2008.

And for a complete change of pace, Breffny often puts himself forward to be booked as a DJ, having picked up the skill of mixing at some point on his chequered career. He has mixed music at some of Ireland’s top nightclubs, including Lillies and The Grafton Lounge, Dublin, and he produces his own diversely-sampled house tracks.

Breffny is also somewhat of a style authority, having been voted Best Dressed Newcomer at the prestigious Kerry Fashion Awards. It is also worth noting that the Irish Independent deemed him a national sex symbol in 2011!

Breffny is never far from an interview or punditry slot across all of the three main national TV stations. There are periodical repeat appearances on The Late Late Show, The Republic of Telly, Ireland AM and Xposé, and there have been once-off slots on Podge and Rodge and other shows. In 2011 Breffny was an avid contributor to national and regional radio with a favourite recurring slot being the digest of the daily papers on 98FM, and also his never-ending jousting with Ivan Yates, when frequently a guest on NewsTalk Breakfast.

Breffny has written features for the Irish Independent (but had no involvement with the sex symbol article!) and Glow Magazine, and he had a column in the News of the World. He has contributed a chapter to the book Making a Making A Difference: Stories of Inspirational Teachers, published in 2012. Both VIP Magazine and The Evening Herald have published full-pages of his work. Breffny recently celebrated the 2nd birthday of a publication he co-founded in April 2010, Cheers Magazine, a monthly entertainment guide and pop culture updater for Dublin city. Breffny now works as co-editor of the magazine.

Breffny splits his time between Ireland and other countries. He is available to disclose scheduling and discuss bookings for anything in the wheelhouse of the above at the contact details below.
