Caroline Matthews of the bridal and occasion wear brand, Caroline Atelier, was announced the Kerry Fashion Designer of the Year at the annual Kerry Fashion Weekend Awards in the Aghadoe Heights Hotel on Sunday (11th of April). Lisa O Connor from Firies was declared Accessory Designer of the Year and Catriona McCarthy from Ballyheigue won Young Designer of the Year. The judges were Melanie Morris, Editor, Image Magazine; Joanne Hynes, Award winning international fashion designer; Liadan Hynes, Fashion Correspondent Sunday Independent and Debbie O Donnell, TV3, Xpose. Kerry Fashion Weekend also honoured the award winning master jeweller, Brian de Staic with a Special Merit Award for his outstanding contribution to the Kerry fashion industry locally, nationally and globally. For fashion and for fun, the winners of the KFW Best and Worst Dressed Lists were also announced at the Awards. Compiled from an on line survey, MC Chloe MacDonnell announced the winners and losers as follows:
Best Dressed Irish Man : Daithi O Se
Worst Dressed Irish Man : Brian Cowen
Best Dressed Irish Woman : Rosanna Davison
Worst Dressed Irish Woman : Mary Harney
Best Dressed Kerry Person : Paul Galvin
Best Dressed Newcomer : Breffny Morgan
Each of the winners received a specially commissioned KFW Gong.
The KFW Fashion Awards also included a drinks reception and fashion show featuring MacBees, Hannons and Fran & Jane; 5 course luncheon, walk through shows featuring work of finalists, celebrity MC, music and more.
Other highlights over Kerry Fashion Weekend 2010 included a Salon Styled Designer Show in the Ross Hotel, Killarney on Saturday 10th of April. Attended by fashionistas, designers and KFW judges, the evening exclusively previewed new collections from Matt Doody, Caroline Atelier, Kathleen McAuliffe, Caroline Leahy, Norma O Donoghue, MoMuse and Claire O Connor. It also featured amazing boutique fashion from GOLD Killarney; MacBees, Fran and Jane and Hannons of Castleisland. Melanie Morris, Editor of IMAGE Magazine, selected Jill Duggan as the Best Dressed Lady at the Ross Show. Jill won a special edition Killarney Crystal necklace.
The looks over Kerry Fashion Weekend were created by Pat O Neill, Style Suite, the Brehon; Kathryn O Neill, head of make up artistry for Daniel Sandler Ireland; Gold Killarney (nail sponsor) and styled by Louise James at Upfront Model Management. The shows were produced by Lisa Dennehy of Upfront PR, Event & Model Management. Music and Sound by Ray Stack. Models were all from Upfront Model Management. Dan Devane Productions was KFW official film producer. Fashion interns were Helena O Keeffe, Hollie Simmonds, Zoe O Connor and Mihaela Lynch.
Kerry Fashion Weekend (KFW) 2010 took place on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th of April. The weekend celebrates and promote designers, boutiques and those working in the Kerry Fashion industry, locally, nationally and internationally.
